Vehicle access on Scotland’s beaches – yea or nae?

Does anyone know where one stands on taking a vehicle onto the beach in Scotland?
There’s lots of driftwood too big to carry back to the carpark on my local beach, so driving onto the beach with a 4×4 and a trailer seems the obvious solution.
However, the beach is used a lot by busy bodies who have nothing better to do with their time than stick their noses in other people’s business, so I would like to be sure of my facts prior to undertaking this course of action.
The beach is not a nature reserve or similar, and this would be done late in the evening when the beach is at it’s quietest.
FYI, the wood is used as fire wood – better for the environment using spare wood lying about (and making the beach tidier at the same time) than trees that have been harvested surely?
Thanks in advance.

I think you will find that the beach between the nearest road access and the high water line belongs to the Local Authority, as does anything on it. best to ask them. Below the water line its Her Majesty’s.
